Well, thats the weird thing, I swear I did just that. First I checked the updater to see what was currently installed, then edited that firmware and install the modified updater to the ipod...
Now, I have restored it using the original firmware installation, but I did not bring my power cable, so I am unable to complete the actual flash until I get home in a couple hours...

Why not just see what version it is on the iPod itself. Settings > About

It should be noted that the replacement fonts made by Chucktaylor and Vander will not work on the 2G. The Chicago character set in the firmware 1.4 is smaller than the firmware that those guys are using. I'm working on a replacement for 2G as we speak.

Vander,
Thanks for that bmp. It should work, although I haven't tried it yet. I've made my own font that is loosely based on Berlin Sans FB, and so I'm using that now. As soon as I can upload it somewhere, I'll post a link. Chuck, the problem with the 4G Chicago font set is that it contains more characters than the 2G version. The pitch of the characters is actually the same.

OK, here's the Berlin font I've been working on. This will work right away with the 2G. A little cutting and pasting is all that's needed for the newer models.

I've converted one of my original fonts to iPod...
Here's Bionika - built for the 3G iPod, it contains all the international characters, etc....

Hey everyone,
Try my ae systematic font here. I got the font from a website with a large database of fonts. There were quite a few 12 px. bitmap fonts.

None of your freeuploads.net links are working. Just to let you know. People offered to host these files, take advantage.

I couldn't upload in the 'iPod Graphics' Section of podite.com, so its under my member gallery '420 theme'. Could the webmaster copy it to the other section also? Thanks, come check it out, its a pretty cool theme.

Hi all,
Version 1.0.4 has been released.
New features:
- Ability to edit character metrics
- Find/Find next in strings pane
- New icon and about box (read the about box - there's an important message in it!)
What's in store:
- Edit strings
- Control character mapping in fonts
- Load multiple bitmaps at once
And any other feature you guys will suggest and is technically possible.
The version has been sent to Uber_1337. Hopefully he'll publish it on his site.
Now, because of the large interest, I think we should have a centralized place to put new versions and info. Unfortunately, I really don't have time to handle it, so what I'm suggesting is that one of you guys who can host the files give me access to his site for a single HTML page and the zip file so I'll be able to update those when there's a new version (preferably someone who has a site devoted to iPod stuff). Then, anyone who wants to mirror it to help share the load can go ahead and download it (or we'll set up an official list of mirrors and let them know each time there's a new version).
That's all for know - hope you're still having fun,
The Wizard

Wizard,
Thanks for another great version of the software. The new ability to edit the font parameters is great! If I can make a feature request, and assuming it's possible, I would love to see the next release have the ability to edit each font's bit depth. I believe this would allow using the Podium font from the iPod photo on my 2G (which is what I've wanted all along). Again, great work with this program. The pace of innovation with this thing continues to amaze me!

RE: Font replacement
Wouldn't it be easier if we could just select a font in the list as a different default font? I know that some people want to change the font completely, but what if some of us just want to go from Chicago, to Pixo 8.
Wizard, is there some kind of setting in there that will allow us to change the default system font?
Thanks again!
