Apparently Microsoft is not so keen on the recently announced Apple/HP iPod partnership. Macworld UK has posted an article wherein the general manager of Microsoft's Windows digital media division speaks out on the issue. Slashdot also points to this article in a recent posting, and I think the Slashdot reader who submitted the link sums it up best (from Slashdot article):
"The general manager of Microsoft's Windows digital media division David Fester has suggested that iTunes' emerging dominance would be bad for consumers, because it would limit them to the iPod, as opposed to limiting them to Microsoft based products. In a moment of what must have been an attempt at ironic humor he said, 'Windows is about choice - you can mix and match software and music player stuff. We believe you should have the same choice when it comes to music services.'"
Good stuff. Another choice piece, this from the original (Macworld UK) article:
Fester also said that HP would confuse its customers because the company supports several other Microsoft media products that are not compatible with the iPod, including its Windows Media Centre software.
We admit a bias towards the Mac, all of us here being content Mac users, but we surely give Windows users more credit than Microsoft, it seems....
