As MobileCrunch reports, AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph De La Vega revealed during an interview that AT&T would "soon" be offering an official tethering option for the iPhone.
Tethering is a process by which a mobile phone can be used to bridge a laptop to the internet. In this case, the iPhone would establish a wireless connection to a laptop (or desktop, really), allowing it to access the internet across its 3G data connection.
No pricing information or firm arrival date has been indicated. AT&T charges an additional $30/month for it tethering option on other smartphones.
A third-party iPhone application that briefly appeared in the App Store before it was pulled allowed successful tethering with no special plan (or fees) in place. Only a lucky few grabbed this app in time, however. (And yours truly is one...it works great!)
