A recent Piper Jaffray study reports of a very high awareness of Apple's upcoming iPhone among teenagers, as well as a great desire to purchase one, despite its high price. Cellular-news reports that 84% of the students surveyed knew of the iPhone and 25% indicated that they would purchase one at the standard $500 US retail.Piper Jaffray says that while they expected a high product awareness for the new iPhone, they had reasonably presumed that the high price point would be a deterant to teenagers being able to purchase the handset. But their survey indicated that 25% of high school students said they would buy an iPhone for US$500. Analysts had been predicting 2007 sales of the iPhone to be around 660,000 units, with 4 million units expected to move in 2008, but in light of this recent survey, analysts claims those figures could be conservative.
