ZappTek has released iSpeak It v3.0 for Mac OS X. iSpeak It is an application that takes a text data source (text file, Word doc, PDF, web page, etc.) and uses OS X's excellent built-in text-to-speech capabilities to "read" the file, vocally, to an output audio file that is automatically transferred to iTunes for encoding into an MP3 or AAC depending upon preference. This encoded file can then be transferred to an iPod for listening on the go. Some notable features are automatic weather forecast and news headline retrieval, intelligent word replacement rules, and a Services menu item for loading selected text from any application.
New in this release:- Drag and dropping a URL to an iSpeak It document will cause the download of the page. If the URL is a document (a PDF, Doc, RTF or text file) then the document will be downloaded
- You can now split documents based on any sequence of characters. This allows you to define your own pattern to use for things like splitting at each chapter in a story
- Added support for Atom feeds (in addition to RSS)
- Splitting of Feeds and News ignores any settings and splits based on articles/sections. iSpeak It ensures that each Feed article and News topic (World, Sports, etc) appears as its own track in iTunes
- And more...
This is a Universal application, ready to run on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.
