iPod Battery Issues Revisited

We've gotten a number of e-mails recently regarding issues with the iPod's battery life. A number of folks, myself included, are noticing that, over time, their iPod's battery life is dwindling. Whereas I, personnally, got 10-11 hours out of a full charge a year ago, I now get 4-5 hours. Concerning.
I contacted one of the local Apple Stores this week and inquired as to what the cost of a battery replacement for the iPod was, and was told that any kind of iPod service issue is resolved by swapping out the entire old iPod for a new unit. This is a costly remedy. To have my battery issue fixed--Apple giving me a new 5GB iPod, would cost $250. That's only a $50 savings over buying a new 5GB unit outright. Not an ideal remedy.
So for the benefit of myself as well as the numerous other users who have written in, let me ask: Is anyone aware of an aftermarket, replacement iPod battery that can be purchased as an alternative to Apple's replacement plan? As can be seen from this site, the iPod battery is an easily removable item that should be user replaceable by anyone with a small degree of technical proficiency. Thanks.
